Quarterback Connor Cook threw for 358 yards and two touchdowns on 25-of-45 passing.
The Spartans will look to redeem themselves and climb back into the Big Ten title race with a win against Maryland, who is coming off a 20-19 win against Penn State and holding a 6-3 record.
The Terrapins won the game with a last-minute field goal by Brad Craddock, who nailed it from 43 yards out.
Quarterback C.J. Brown was efficient as he threw for 161 yards and a touchdown on 18-of-38 passing. He will face a major challenge without suspended wide receiver Stefon Diggs though.
