No. 13 Arizona State had their national championship dreams crushed by Oregon State as they lost, 35-27. Sun Devils quarterback Taylor Kelly threw a pick-six to effectively seal the win for the Beavers.
The Beavers then forced a three-and-out on the Sun Devils’ final drive. Kelly was held to 264 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions on 22-of-44 passing, and running back D.J. Foster led the Sun Devils in rushing with 51 yards.
Wide receiver Jaelen Strong caught nine passes for 103 yards to keep himself on the map as an All-American candidate.
The Sun Devils’ run defense struggled though as they let Terron Ward and Storm Woods exceed 100 rushing yards and score a touchdown apiece.
They will look to get back on track against Washington State, who ironically beat Oregon State the week before.
The Cougars improved to 3-7 before going on their bye week, and they will look to build on their latest win as they ride quarterback Luke Falk, who is filling in for the injured Connor Halliday.
Falk threw for 471 yards and five touchdown passes against the Beavers, but the Arizona State defense will present a bigger challenge as they have shown flashes of brilliance this season.
Returning home and seeking redemption will be a lethal combination as well.
Prediction: Arizona State 38, Washington State 21
