No. 24 Marshall is still on a quest to have an undefeated season, and they finally snuck into the rankings after improving their record to 11-0. Although a playoff spot is unlikely, Marshall will do everything they can to prove they belong on the national scene.
The Thundering Herd survived a road game against UAB as they won, 23-18. Quarterback Rakeem Cato threw two touchdown passes with 284 yards and two touchdowns with an interception.
Running back Devon Johnson ran for 171 yards on 20 carries to reach at least 100 rushing yards for the 10th time this season.
Meanwhile, Western Kentucky is looking to cement their chances for a berth in a bowl game and play spoiler against Marshall. They hold a 6-5 record, and they have momentum on their side with a three-game winning streak.
Their defense has also improved dramatically in that span with 19.3 points allowed per game. Quarterback Brandon Doughty led the Hilltoppers to a 45-7 win over UTSA with five touchdown passes, and he has not thrown an interception for three consecutive games since throwing four in a loss to Louisiana Tech.
The Thundering Herd will be a difficult test, especially since they are at home. The Hilltoppers’ hot streak came entirely in their home field.
Prediction: Marshall 42, Western Kentucky 31
