Nebraska beats McNeese State – Nebraska avoids upset and defeats McNeese State, 31-24
No. 21 Nebraska improved to 5-0 with a win against Illinois by a score of 45-14. The Fighting Illini were able to tie the game, 7-7, in the first quarter.
The Cornhuskers stormed out to a 31-14 lead at halftime though, and they never looked back as they scored 14 unanswered points in the second half.
They were led by running back Ameer Abdullah, who rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. Imani Cross added another 108 rushing yards with a touchdown.
Wide receiver Kenny Bell led the Cornhuskers in receiving with 105 yards and a touchdown on five receptions.
Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. had a rough game, but he recovered later on and finished with 166 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 10-of-21 passing.
For the Fighting Illini, quarterback Reilly O’Toole threw for 261 yards and a touchdown but was also forced into throwing three interceptions. Running back Josh Ferguson rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.
With this loss, the Fighting Illini fall to 3-2 and 0-1 in Big Ten games.
