No. 22 East Carolina is the sole representative of the American Athletic Conference in the AP Top 25, and they will look to remain in the rankings as they face SMU in their first American matchup of the season.
The Pirates are currently 3-1 with their sole loss coming against South Carolina. Their offense has shined throughout the season, scoring 43.3 points per game. This is good for 13th in the country.
Quarterback Shane Carden has thrown for 1,469 yards with 11 touchdown passes against three interceptions, and he led the Pirates to a 70-41 steamrolling over North Carolina while throwing for 438 yards and four touchdown passes with an interception.
Meanwhile, SMU is looking for their first win of the season after yet another blowout loss. They were shut out by TCU, 56-0, and they have only scored 12 points throughout four games while allowing at least 43 points in each of their games.
However, this may be partly due to having a difficult schedule to start the season. They have already played No. 7 Baylor and No. 6 Texas A&M, and TCU just jumped up to No. 25 with their latest win. East Carolina will be their fourth ranked opponent of the season.
Judging by their inability to produce on offense or defense against all of their opponents, including a mediocre North Texas team, this game has blowout written all over it.
Prediction: East Carolina 55, SMU 7
