No. 19 East Carolina received an upset scare from South Florida in a road game, but they held on for a 28-17 victory to improve to 5-1.
The Bulls led the Pirates, 17-14, but the Pirates scored 14 points in the fourth quarter on a couple of rushing touchdowns.
Pirates quarterback Shane Carden didn’t have his best performance, but he looked solid overall as he threw for 250 yards and one touchdown with one interception on 24-of-33 passing.
Running back Breon Allen tied his season high with 18 carries and rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown. Allen also got involved in the passing game as he caught four passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Wide receiver Justin Hardy had his second consecutive 100-yard game as he caught 10 passes for 114 yards.
For the Bulls, quarterback Mike White continued to struggle with his accuracy as he threw for 257 yards on 21-of-41 passing. He threw a touchdown pass but also threw a pick.
Running back Marlon Mack ran for 61 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Wide receiver Andre Davis finished with 124 yards and a touchdown on six catches.
