The #5 Baylor Bears host the #9 TCU Horned Frogs in a battle of top teams in the Big XII.
The Bears have been on a tear in college football, going undefeated through the first 5 games and picking up wins over the Iowa State Cyclones and the Texas Longhorns, outscoring those opponents 77-35. Of course, those two wins came after outscoring their first 3 opponents by an even more impressive 178-27. QB Bryce Petty is a Heisman favorite who led the Bears to the Big XII title in 2013 before losing to UCF in the Fiesta bowl. If Baylor wins today, they are virtually guaranteed a move into the top 5 with a matchup between #2 Auburn and #3 Mississippi State guaranteeing a loser.
TCU is a rather interesting story. The team joined the Big XII in 2012 after 7 straight years of dominance of the Mountain West Conference that included 6 bowl wins in 7 appearances. But in its first year TCU managed only 7 wins and its first season without a bowl appearance since 2004. But in 2013 the team fell to 4-8, its worst record since 1997.
Whoever wins this game will likely see a big bump in the standings next week. And could very well be the favorite to win the Big XII title this season.
Prediction: Baylor – The Bears have way too much firepower for the Horned Frogs to contend with. Baylor has blown out just about every opponent they’ve played this year and have outscored opponents at home 115-6. TCU may not get blown out, but they just aren’t as good as Baylor is on offense.
