No. 17 Arizona State improved to 5-1 as they defeated No. 23 Stanford, who lost their third game of the season and is sure to fall out of the top 25.
Sun Devils quarterback Mike Bercovici made his third start of the season as Taylor Kelly continued to sit out with a foot injury.
While his numbers fell back down to Earth, he played smart football as he committed no turnovers and threw for 245 yards and a touchdown pass on 23-of-33 passing against a top-ranked Cardinal defense.
Running back D.J. Foster was held to 59 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries, but he contributed in the passing game with 92 yards on seven receptions, which led the Sun Devils offense. Wide receiver Jaelen Strong caught eight passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.
For the Cardinal, quarterback Kevin Hogan was held to 212 yards on 19-of-39 passing. Running back Remound Wright ran for a team-leading 40 yards on nine carries. Wide receiver Ty Montgomery caught six passes for 82 yards.
