Michigan State beats Nebraska – Michigan State holds on for 27-22 win against Nebraska
No. 19 Nebraska bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to Michigan State as they defeated Northwestern, 38-17. The Wildcats appeared to be on track for an upset as they led the Cornhuskers, 17-14, at halftime.
However, the Cornhuskers took a 21-17 lead in the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth quarter with 17 unanswered points.
Running back Ameer Abdullah, who remains a viable Heisman Trophy candidate, rushed for 146 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries. He showed his goal-line prowess as all of his touchdowns were for one yard.
Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. was efficient as he threw for 221 yards on 18-of-29 passing. While he did not throw a touchdown pass, he caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from wide receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El on a trick play.
For the Wildcats, quarterback Trevor Siemian was held to 173 yards and an interception on 18-of-39 passing.
Running back Justin Jackson enjoyed a solid game as he ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
