The Florida State Seminoles host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in one of only two games left this season between undefeated teams.
With and without QB Jameis Winston, the Seminoles have found ways to remain undefeated – narrowly beating Oklahoma State, N.C. State and Clemson while blowing out The Citadel, Syracuse and Wake Forest. The defense struggled against N.C. State but has otherwise been very stout this season and has been able to force turnovers in the critical situations. Look for that playmaking defense to take advantage of a turnover-prone Fighting Irish squad.
The Fighting Irish have been rejuvenated with QB Everett Golson playing at a nearly Heisman trophy level at times this year and have only been held under 30 points once in their 6 wins. While the last two wins against Stanford and North Carolina have been a little too close for comfort, the Notre Dame defense has been stout when needed and has only given up more than 17 points once this year.
When dealing with two undefeated teams in such unique situations as the Seminoles and the Fighiting Irish – neither of whom are in a true power conference – it is very likely that the loser of this game will be all but done in the quest for the college football playoffs.
Prediction: Florida State – In a battle of two turnover-prone undefeated teams with a penchant for not letting their turnovers kill the team, ultimately the team with the better QB will prevail. In this case, Jameis Winston provides the Seminoles with a clear advantage over a struggling Everett Golson.
