No. 1 ranked Mississippi State tries to keep its undefeated record, but more importantly its top ranking alive against the 5-2 Kentucky Wildcats in Week 9 of college football.
Mississippi State has shocked the college football world by overcoming not one, but 3 top 10 teams in back-to-back-to-back weeks which brought it up from unranked to No. 1 in record time. Now Heisman-hopeful QB Dak Prescott leads the No. 1 team in the nation as they try to improve to 7-0 against the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Wildcats are ranked 3rd in the SEC East and have a 5-2 record thanks to a 45-38 upset over the South Carolina Gamecocks this year, but other than that the team has struggled against both good teams and bad teams. A win over last-place Vanderbilt was by only 10 points in a 17-7 win and their 3 other wins all came against non-conference opponents. They lost by 6 to Florida and were beaten down last week by LSU. With hard games against Missouri, Georgia and Tennessee all coming up before their next bye week, the Wildcats may not even make it to a bowl game if they can’t one more win before the finale against Louisville.
Prediction: Mississippi State – As impressive as Kentucky’s 5-2 record may be, it hides the fact that Kentucky has had an easy schedule and was only recently blown out by LSU. If there is indeed a team in the SEC, or college football in general, that can beat the Bulldogs, it won’t be a Kentucky team that isn’t nearly as good as its record.
