The Nebraska Cornhuskers came away with a 42-24 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to assert themselves as a Big Ten title contender.

No. 16 Nebraska improved to 7-1 with a 42-24 victory over Rutgers, who fell to 5-3 and failed another test against a premier Big Ten team.
The Cornhuskers controlled the game throughout, and running back Ameer Abdullah made an even stronger case for the Heisman Trophy as he totaled 341 all-purpose yards. He had 90 yards on kick returns while rushing for 225 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries and 26 receiving yards.
Quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. was efficient as he threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns with one interception on 14-of-22 passing. Wide receiver Kenny Bell caught six passes for 63 yards and broke the school record for receptions.
For the Scarlet Knights, quarterback Gary Nova had another forgettable performance as he threw for 156 yards and one touchdown with one interception on 8-of-19 passing.
Running back Desmon Peoples was held to 32 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, but wide receiver Leonte Carroo caught five passes for 127 yards and a touchdown.
