Cal is coming off a heartbreaking 36-34 loss to UCLA, marking their second consecutive loss. Their record now stands at 4-3 after a fast start. Their difficult schedule will not get any easier as they face No. 6 Oregon on Friday.
Quarterback Jared Goff has had a solid sophomore season with 24 touchdown passes and only four interceptions, but he threw a costly interception last week to seal a UCLA win.
The Golden Bears having the 120th-ranked defense in the country with 38.4 points against per game doesn’t help matters either. Their offense has shined though, as it ranks 10th in the nation with 41.6 points per game.
Oregon is sure to give the Cal defense fits. They are coming off a 45-20 victory against Washington, and their offense continues to fly high.
Quarterback Marcus Mariota has yet to throw an interception this season, and running back Royce Freeman had his best game of the season with 169 yards and four touchdowns.
The Ducks offense will be way too much for a Cal defense that still hasn’t faced an offense of Oregon’s magnitude, but the Golden Bears may still be able to put some points on the board.
Prediction: Oregon 52, Cal 27
