Chael Sonnen has retired from MMA after he tested positive for banned substances.
UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts after failing an out-of-competition drug test.
The 37-year-old made the announcement on TV show UFC Tonight.
“I want to stay within the rules, and I don’t fully understand them, I have to put my health first. I have to put my family first,” Sonnen said.
“There’s going to be a day where I lose the title of ‘fighter’, but I don’t want there to be a day where I don’t have the title of parent and father and husband, and my health has got to come first.”
Sonnen tested positive for anastrozole and clomiphene, both used to treat infertility in males.
He retires from his professional career with a record of 28-14-1.
