The Swiss champions come with a certain amount of threat.
Chelsea start their Champions League campaign with a home tie to FC Basel, a match the club will be expected to win.
The Blues knocked out the Swiss champions over two-legs in the Europa League semi-finals last year, so should be aware of the what the club will bring.
However, here are three Basel stars that the west London outfit should be wary of as they’re capable of causing upsets.
Mohamad Salah
The Egypt international arrived at the club last summer and has impressed again this season in both Champions League qualification and the league.
After the departure of Xherdan Shaqiri to Bayern Munich, Basel were desperate for creativity down the flanks and with four goals and three assists in 11 matches this term, Salah appears to have provided that.
Valentin Stocker
This is Stocker’s seventh season in the Basel first team, despite still only being 24-years-old and the Switzerland international provides the perfect foil for Salah on the left-flank.
The two wingers operate in tandem and Stocker has been equally effective with the ball by providing six assists in nine matches.
Marco Streller
As Basel captain and long-term No.9, Streller is one of the most important players at the club and at 32-years-old is still a reliable source of goals.
The striker has netted four times in five matches in the league and should profit from anything coming into the box with the forward’s strength and aerial ability.
