The always cheerful Charlie Austin might have been just what the doctor ordered over at Old Trafford. Maybe.
In the waning hours of the transfer window yesterday, Man United were looking into adding another striker to their ranks.
According to the Metro, Man United expressed interest in Queens Park Rangers scoring machine Charlie Austin prior before ultimately deciding to pass on the £15 million-rated star.
The Red Devils instead made one of the largest transfers in club history to land 19-year-old Monaco striker Anthony Martial on the final day of the transfer window.
The 26-year-old Charlie Austin has recorded double-digit scoring years in nine of his 10 senior seasons since he was a teenage wonderkid with Kintbury Rangers back in 2006. After recording a hat-trick in a win over West Bromwich back in December, Austin was named Premier League Player of the Month.
Austin recorded 18 goals for the club last season – good for 4th best in the league – but his offensive output couldn’t match their defensive failures and QPR was relegated after just one year in the Premier League.
