Mata is delighted after beating the Saints 3-1.
It was a good day for Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday as the team maintained their good run of the form with a 3-1 victory over Southampton.
Out of favour attacking midfielder Juan Mata started the match as Jose Mourinho also brought Fernando Torres and Michael Essien into the starting XI.
However, it was Essien’s mistake that led to the first goal as straight from kickoff a poor back pass from the Ghana international gifted a chance for Jay Rodriguez.
The 31-year-old was taken off at half-time to be replaced by the impressive Demba Ba and strikes from the forward and Gary Cahill and John Terry completed the comeback.
“I’m still excited after the team’s comeback against Southampton. One of those victories that boosts your morale,” Mata wrote in the Spaniard’s blog.
“Being able to win this way, at the Bridge and in front of such a good squad as they are – one of the top teams in the Premier right now – is always significant.”
The Spain international has struggled to get a regular first team place this term despite being the Blues’ Player of the Season for the past two years.
The match with the Saints was Mata’s 12th appearance of the season and the 25-year-old provided assists for both Cahill and Terry’s goals.
Mourinho has generally preferred Oscar in the No.10 role behind the striker, but with the Brazilian looking short on form of late it could well be the Spaniard’s opportunity, in what will be a packed month of fixtures for the west London club.
