Chelsea are negotiating with Stoke City to let their new striker Romelu Lukaku move to the Britannia Stadium on loan.
The 18 year-old Belgium international signed for Andre Villas Boas’ team in the summer and made a lively debut for his new team against Norwich City at the weekend.
However, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy believe he will develop faster should he be given regular first team football on loan elsewhere, and his enormous physique ought to see him well suited to Stoke City’s direct style of play.
With Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Daniel Sturridge and Nicolas Anelka possibly ahead of him in the pecking order for strikers at Chelsea, Lukaku may find it more beneficial to cut his teeth in the Premier League elsewhere.
However, any loan bid is likely to only take place from January, as Premier League rules do not allow a newly signed player to go out on loan to another club in the division in the same transfer window.
