Blues have agreed terms for the transfer of Filipe to replace Cole.
Chelsea have agreed to match Atletico Madrid’s £20 million asking price for 28 year old Brazilian defender Filipe Luis, reports the Sun.
The industrious left-back has been pursued by Blues boss Jose Mourinho to replace Ashley Cole, who recently completed a free-transfer to Serie A side AS Roma.
Chelsea were set aback by Atletico Madrid’s asking price for their defender, and while they were initially only offering £15 million for the Brazil international, Mourinho has now decided to agree to the Spanish champions’ demands.
Filipe is the perfect Mourinho kind of player as he has tremendous work-rate in defence as well as going forward, and could ably fit into the shoes of Cole.
He proved his credentials to Mourinho with a stellar showing against the Blues in the Champions League semi-final last season, which has now gotten the Portuguese to pay up the necessary amount to land him at Stamford Bridge.
