If, as expected, Petr Cech is allowed to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, Begovic would be an ideal replacement on the bench for the Czech veteran.
However, the Blues would face a battle to convince Begovic to be understudy to the young Thibaut Courtois after years of being a Premier League number one.
Chelsea would also face competition from Serie A side Roma who would be prepared to give Begovic first team – and Champions League starting – football.
A big question mark has been raised over Begovic’s future at Stoke after Jack Butland replaced him in the Potters starting XI and according to The Daily Telegraph will keep his place until at least the end of the season.
It’s especially poignant given Begovic will have only one-year left on his contract when this campaign comes to a close and could be available for as little as £8 million.
If a deal did come to fruition, it would mean Chelsea get a player they were keen on signing as an understudy to Petr Cech five years ago.
