The duo will battle it out for Koke.
Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke is thought to be the subject of interest for both Barcelona and Chelsea, who will battle it out for his signature this summer, according to the Metro.
The 22-year-old had a brilliant previous 12 months with the Spanish champions, helping Diego Simeone’s side to their first La Liga title in 18 years and their first ever Champions League final.
This success has drawn interest from some of Europe’s elite, not least the Blues who have already targeted a number of stars from the Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Diego Costa is a key target for Jose Mourinho, whilst Felipe Luis and Tiago are also on the 51-year-old’s wishlist and after three years on-loan with Atleti, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is also expected to return to his parent club at Stamford Bridge.
Now the west Londoners are also targeting Koke, as they look to find a replacement for long serving veteran Frank Lampard – who announced he would be leaving the club after 13 years on Monday.
However, Barca too are on the lookout for midfield recruitment as they prepare to sell Cesc Fabregas this summer – with a host of Premier League sides thought to be interested, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and even Mourinho’s side.
Koke’s reputation has greatly risen over the past three-and-a-half years since breaking into Atletico’s first team and to date the Spain international has played 169 times for the club.
In 2013/14 the midfield ace – who can play more-or-less anywhere in the middle of the park – made 58 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing 17 assists.
