Quote: “I’m really happy, lively, content, and eager. I’m seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, and keen to enjoy football again from within” – David Villa, March 2012.
Stat Attack: Villa scored 108 goals in 166 La Liga games for Valencia, before joining Barcelona.
Verdict: This story could have legs.
David Villa has struggled for starts at the Nou Camp since recovering from a nasty leg break last year, with his return not helped by the emergence of Cristian Tello and return to form of Pedro.
The striker has also faced suggestions that former Barca boss Pep Guardiola was preparing to sell him, before the legendary coach decided to take a sabbatical and was replaced by Tito Vilanova.
It is a shame for Villa, who was considered one of the best strikers in world football before his injury, but it does look like a fresh start is needed for the Spain international.
That could be at Chelsea, who are keen for a new centre-forward to support the misfiring Fernando Torres, but probably have bigger targets, like Radamel Falcao, in their sights.
Juventus have been searching for a top striker for quite some time too, ending up with Arsenal loanee Niklas Bendtner this summer, despite chasing the likes of Luis Suarez, Robin van Persie and Dimitar Berbatov.
The Old Lady would likely be an attractive proposition for Villa, should he decide to leave the Nou Camp in January.
