Bitter Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool are set to fight it out for another summer transfer target, with the Surrey Mirror reporting that the two are ready to battle for the signing of Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco after Real Madrid pulled out of a prospective deal.
The Colombian striker is believed to be unhappy at French club AS Monaco, perhaps even more so now that compatriot James Rodriguez has moved on, with the former Atletico Madrid man not having played for months after picking up a serious injury in the French Cup.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool are still looking to bolster their strike forces, with the Blues expecting to have to sign a replacement in the squad for Romelu Lukaku, whilst Brendan Rodgers continues to put together a package capable of replacing Luis Suarez.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is likely to be mindful of the periods last season during which none of Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba were firing on all cylinders, with the Portuguese boss unlikely to want a repeat with new trio Diego Costa, Didier Drogba and Torres.
Falcao, meanwhile, would represent a statement of intent for Liverpool after they lost Suarez, arguably their only genuinely world class player, to La Liga giants Barcelona.
