Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko is expected to leave for another Premier League club this summer.
According to the Daily Star, Chelsea and Liverpool are the French international’s most likely suitors.
The pair were given an even bigger boost in the race after it was revealed that Tottenham Hotspur, who have also been linked with Sissoko, have not made an official bid.
Liverpool are not expected to be as aggressive in their pursuit of Sissoko as Chelsea, as they have already made a splash signing this summer.
The Reds agreed a £32.5m deal with Aston Villa for star striker Christian Benteke earlier this week.
Newcastle are expected to ask for £16m for Sissoko.
The 25-year-old midfielder expressed his desire to secure a spot on France’s Euro 2016 squad by playing for a better club team.
“With a year until the Euros, I shouldn’t change club and risk ended up on the bench. But at the same time, I want to play for one of the biggest clubs,” Sissoko said. “I want to play in the Champions League, which we don’t have at Newcastle.
The French midfielder scored four goals for Newcastle last season while making 34 Premier League appearances.
