Premier League duo Chelsea and Liverpool have been handed a boost in their hopes of landing Barcelona full-back Dani Alves, with the news that Manchester United have not – as previously reported – agreed a deal to bring him to Old Trafford.

Reports in the Daily Star explain that late last week, football agent Francois Gallardo claimed that United had secured a preliminary agreement with Alves for him to join next summer, but that has since been rebuffed by Spanish football pundit Guillem Balague.
Balague believes Barcelona have offered the Brazilian a fresh contract, and when asked on Twitter whether the speculation was accurate, he replied: “Alves has NOT signed for United. He’s negotiating a new contract with FCB. Main sticking point: club wants wages reduced. So his future not decided yet.”
Alves’ agent Dinora Santana revealed last week that he would consider his next move in December or January, commenting: “If the club [Barcelona] wanted to renew Alves they would have done it already.
“I would not do things they way they have. We will leave the suitors until December or January… then we’ll decide who to marry.”
