Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin has been heavily targeted by various Premier League teams, but he appears destined to stay in Spain.
According to the Daily Express, Godin will receive a contract extension through 2019 that will come as a major blow to his potential suitors.
AS also reports that the deal is imminent.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City have all pursued the 28-year-old defender, but Godin has ultimately decided to snub a move to the Premier League.
Manchester United in particular have been keen to bolster their defence and have also actively pursued Real Madrid centre-back Sergio Ramos.
They appear to be on the verge of reaching a deal for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi though, and they signed Matteo Darmian during the summer transfer window.
Chelsea have also been keen to add a defender, and are close to a deal with Augsburg starlet Baba Rahman, while they have expressed serious interest in Everton defender John Stones.
Man City were prepared to match the Uruguayan international’s £28m release clause, but it appears Godin is destined to remain at the Vicente Calderon.
Atletico Madrid will have one of their key players locked up for the foreseeable future, and Godin offers scoring ability as an added bonus.
He has scored 18 goals in his last five seasons for Atletico Madrid.
