Top-flight duo have been tracking prolific marksman all campaign long.
New Napoli head coach Rafa Benitez wants star front man Edinson Cavani to remain with the Serie A club for one more season, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The red-hot Uruguay international has been the subject of intense speculation of late linking the attacker with a big-money move away from Naples when the summer transfer window once again swings open for business on July 1.
Both mega-rich Premier League giants Manchester City and Chelsea are understood to be interested in signing the 26-year-old for next season, although each are also said to be wary of meeting’s Cavani’s whopping £53 million release clause in his current contract with Napoli, that runs until June 30 2017.
And now Benitez will attempt to wreck the top flight duo’s hopes of luring the forward to the Premier League for next season by holding talks with Cavani about staying with the high-flying Italian outfit for one more campaign.
