St Etienne’s Zouma has pledged the Frenchman’s future to the club.
Despite strong interest from some of Europe’s elite – including Chelsea and Manchester United – Saint Etienne’s Kurt Zouma has committed the teenager’s future to Les Verts.
AS Monaco, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus and Liverpool were also keen on the youngster, who has been a regular face in the St Etienne first team since turning 16.
Now 18-years-old, Zouma has decided that a switch to the Premier League is not what the centre-back wants currently and after signing a new deal back in February, has confirmed the desire to stay in France.
“This extension is a great vote of confidence in me from the club,” the France under-21 international was quoted by the Express.
“St Etienne means a lot to me because it is where I was developed.
“This is a new step in my career. I still need to learn. I will also gain experience and I know that will help me to grow.”
United were thought to be the most keen on bringing the youngster in during the January transfer window and were thought to be preparing a £7m offer for Zouma.
However, the Ligue 1 club are keen to hold onto their prized asset after losing two key stars in Pierre-Emerick Aubayemang and Josuha Guilavogui during the summer, to Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid respectively.
Red Devils manager David Moyes is likely to be preparing for the future at the back with both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in the twilight years on their careers.
However, it seems it could be another transfer disappointment for the Scot as Zouma looks set to be staying on the defender’s side of the channel.
