The proposed move to Bayern for the striker in doubt after Napoli talks.
Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski will be leaving the club next summer, but whilst it seemed Bayern Munich was the desired destination, Chelsea and Manchester United are now keeping tabs after the Pole’s agent confirms Napoli talks.
Lewandowski is in the final year of the striker’s contract at the Westfalenstadion and Dortmund chose to allow the 25-year-old to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season, rather than sell the attacker in the recently closed window.
This was a decision that initially frustrated the Poland international, but who has since become resigned to staying with the Bundesliga and Champions League runners-up.
“My point of view was that I thought I could make the switch in the summer,” Lewandowski was quoted by ESPN.
“In the summer, I was disappointed and angry. Everything is settled now. I have always said that I respect my contract.”
However, whilst it seemed that the player’s move to Bayern in 2014 was good as done, Lewandowski’s agent Raffaelle Auriemma has now confirmed talks with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
“I can not tell you how long I spoke with Aurelio De Laurentiis. It must remain between us,” Auriemma was quoted in the Daily Express.
“But I can tell you that we have recently had contact.”
Lewandowski has risen to prominence at Dortmund in the past few years with some fine performances for the club and last term the forward finished as runner-up as top-scorer in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.
This campaign the striker has continued that great form and has already netted five goals in seven matches for the German club.
