Ross Barkley signs new four-year deal at Everton.
England’s promising young prospect Ross Barkley, who has been a transfer target for Premier League bigwigs Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United recently, has signed a new four-year deal at Everton, reports the BBC.
The 20-year old attacking midfielder is progressing rapidly with the Toffees’ and is seen by many as the next big thing in England.
The Manchester clubs’ hopes of landing the starlet have now diminished as Barkley is all set to take up a new, more responsible role at Goodison Park.
Everton staved off interest from several top clubs in the Premier League last term to make sure that they kept their star in the making, and have finally been rewarded with his commitment.
“It is a four-year deal which reflects his new role and his development,” Roberto Martinez said.
“This is as big news as we could get. He is still a young man but is a massive part of our squad.”
Barkley also played a reasonable part in England’s 2014 World Cup campaign last month, albeit at a very tender age, and despite the new contract, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the big boys in the Premier League come back for his services at a later stage.
