The stars who impressed in the last-16.
The League Cup completed another round on Tuesday and Wednesday nights as Premier League giants Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all progressed.
Here is the Team of the Week from the last-16 in the competition.
Goalkeeper
In City’s 0-2 extra-time triumph over Newcastle United, stand-in goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon made a great case to Citizens manager Manuel Pellegrini for a starting place in the league.
There are big question marks over the capabilities of Joe Hart and Pantilimon was in fine form against the Magpies, with a close range stop to deny Papiss Cisse a particular highlight.
Defence
At right-back Micah Richards nearly got the nod but in the end the position was filled by opposite number Mathieu Debuchy.
After taking time to adjust to life at St James’ Park, the Frenchman know looks comfortable and was a real asset in both defence and attack.
There’s a centre-back partnership of Debuchy’s team-mate Mike Williamson – who played brilliantly in the absence of club captain Fabricio Coloccini – and Tottenham Hotspur’s Younes Kaboul.
Kaboul was a rock at the heart of the Spurs defence and could well keep either Michael Dawson or Vlad Chiriches out of the side at the weekend.
To complete the back four there is a place for Red Devils ace Alexander Buttner, who once again showed the Dutchman’s ability to get forward and cause problems.
