The 27-year-old has grown increasingly frustrated at the Nou Camp in recent times having lost his place in the starting XI since Enrique took over in the summer.
The new boss prefers the central defensive partnership of Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu at the back and this has seen Pique often looking forlorn from the bench.
Both the Blues and United have been keeping a close eye on developments as they consider moves for the Spain international to help bolster their own squads.
Pique previously spent four years at Old Trafford between 2004 and 2008, although never truly established himself in the Red Devils first team and that may put him off a return.
