United’s and the Blues’ hopes of signing Cavani quashed.
Chelsea or Manchester United will not be signing Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani this summer as the Uruguayan has committed his immediate future to the French champions.
The 27-year old has been the subject of much speculation over the last few months as he was unhappy with his wide forward role at the Parc des Princes, but the £55 million man signing has now made peace with his situation.
“I am certain to stay, why wouldn’t I be?” Cavani was quoted by the Mirror.
“I feel great in Paris. I have a contract to respect with PSG. I’m calm. I prefer to be here. I feel good here.
“But as I have said before, it doesn’t only depend on the player, but also on certain things that can happen at the club. We have had some small problems with the position I wanted to play in, but I feel very good about that.”
Cavani is back with PSG for pre-season training and after holding discussions with manager Laurent Blanc about his future role, he is now focused on helping the club win many more titles in the seasons to come.
The news comes as a big blow to United and the Blues, who were also reportedly in the hunt for the unsettled striker, and would now in all likelihood miss out on signing the hit-man.
