The announcement from the club comes just days after Nathan himself announced the deal complete on his Instagram account and posted a photos at Chelsea’s Cobham training complex and signing his Blues contract.
The teenager is Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer transfer window after passing a medical and agreeing person terms, say Chelseafc.com
Chelsea do not reveal how much the deal cost, but The Guardian claimed on Monday it had been sealed for around £4.5 million.
Nathan is an attacking midfielder by trade and is said to have an ‘eye for goal and impressive pace’.
Speaking of the move, Nathan said: “I am very happy to be joining Chelsea, the champions of England, and I hope I will be able to learn a lot and develop my game.”
Full name Nathan Allan de Souza, Nathan has represeneted Brazil on the international stage in U-17 and U-20 level and was named in the team of the tournament at the U-17 World Cup in 2013.
He will not, however, qualify for a work permit so it’s unlikely he will be seen in the Chelsea first team any time soon.
It means Nathan will likely be loaned out to one of Chelsea’s associated clubs, such as Vitesse Arnhem in the Eredevisie or their newly agreed deal with Belgian side Royal Mouscron-Peruwelz, to gain experience.
The Guardian believe Jose Mourinho will now look to sign another Brazilian, Robert Kennedy, in the coming weeks and days for a similar fee.
