The Blues will listen to offers for the striker.
After securing Anzhi Makhachkala forward Samuel Eto’o on a one-year deal, Chelsea are now open to selling Fernando Torres, according to the Mirror.
Torres became the Blues’ club record signing in January 2011 after joining from Liverpool in a £50m deal, but despite winning the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League since then the Spaniard has failed to fulfil expectations.
In 133 matches for the west London club the 29-year-old has managed a fairly average return of 34 goals for the club and with Eto’o, Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba also at Stamford Bridge, the striker could be shown the door.
Manager Jose Mourinho is also open to the idea of letting Ba leave,, with former side Newcastle United interested in bringing the Senegal international back to St James’ Park – but the coach insists Lukaku is still a part of the plans.
Mourinho is still continuing the 50-year-old’s long-term pursuit of Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, but the signing of Eto’o could signal that the boss is admitting defeat.
However, several clubs will now be on alert as Torres becomes available, as despite the fact the attacker is not as sharp in front of goals as the Spain international once was, the talent is still undeniable.
The striker has also won the World Cup and successive European Championships with the national side and has scored 35 goals in 105 caps.
It’s unlikely many fans at the Bridge will be too unhappy to see Torres leave though and with Mourinho back at the helm, many supporters are expecting instant success this season.
