Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to blow Chelsea and Arsenal out of the water in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.
Carvalho has long been on the radar of Europe’s top clubs and a bidding war was expected this summer after he shone at the European Under-21 Championship.
That had seemingly been put on hold after the 23-year-old was diagnosed with a fractured tibia and ruled out for three months on his return to pre-season training.
But now Spanish publication AS claims that Rafael Benitez is desperate to secure Carvalho ahead of the Premier League’s top teams, and has sanctioned a £32m bid for the midfield powerhouse.
Madrid will reportedly meet with Carvalho’s agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate the terms of the deal, and neither Arsenal or Chelsea are likely to be able to match the figures on offer.
