The future of Bayern Munich playmaker Toni Kroos has been the centre of one of the summer’s longest running transfer sagas, with another twist emerging today with reports from the Metro suggesting that Chelsea are trying to hijack a deal to take Kroos to Real Madrid that was seemingly all-but completed.
Kroos, who was initially linked to Manchester United before becoming a target for the European champions, refused to be drawn on his future when he appeared for the pre-match press conference ahead of Germany’s crucial World Cup quarter final against France on Friday evening.
If the reports are to be believed, however, Jose Mourinho has sanctioned a £19.9 million bid from the Blues that matches the one that Bayern are believed to have accepted from Real – possibly leaving the player’s eventual destination entirely in the hands of Kroos himself.
Chelsea are ready to offer Kroos £125,000 per week, whilst also giving him the opportunity to earn lucrative performance-related bonuses, in the hope to lure him from the clutches of Carlo Ancelotti in the Spanish capital.
Kroos has been a key part of Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich star but refused to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena, believing that he was being undervalued by the Bayern Munich hierarchy.
A fine playmaking midfielder, he has also grown into his role as a key part of Joachim Low’s national team, who are still in with a chance of lifting the 2014 FIFA World Cup trophy.
