Ramy Rabia subject of transfer interest from Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford.
Chelsea and Manchester United are amongst teams expected to bid for Al Ahly central defender Ramy Rabia, according to Sky Sports.
The 19 year-old is thought to be the best Egyptian player of his generation, and has already earned five caps for his country, scoring once.
He is a cultured centre back, comfortable with the ball at his feet and bringing the ball out of defence, and his positional sense even at this early stage of his career puts him in good stead for the future.
Rabia made his debut for Al Ahly at just 17, and has already won the domestic title, super cup, African Champions League and played in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The natural progression would be a move to Europe, and unsurprisingly given the huge scouting operations at the biggest clubs, he is already on the radar of many of the continent’s elite.
Chelsea captain John Terry is in the twilight of his career at Stamford Bridge, with Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz emerged as the first choice defensive partnership this season.
A younger defender to eventually push them for their places would be a sound investment, and if scouts deem Rabia to have the potential to reach the highest level, a bid would be understandable.
At Manchester United, the need to sign Rabia is less clear, for there is plenty of cover at centre back at Old Trafford.
Veterans Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand will continue to play next season, while Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling offer fine alternatives.
“A number of clubs have expressed an interest, but at the moment Ramy is looking forward to the Under-20 World Cup,” said a statement from Rabia’s agents at SEM.
