Blues need a replacement for the departing Mikel next season.
Chelsea look set to beat Real Madrid to the £10 million capture of up-and-coming Sevilla midfield player Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer, according to reports in the London Evening Standard.
The exciting young France Under-20 international has been with the Liga outfit for just the one season now, having originally signed for the southern Spanish club from Ligue 1 side Lens last year.
And in his debut campaign in La Liga, the 20-year featured in 37 matches in all competitions for Sevilla, registering just the one goal and the three assists in the process, including one strike in his 31 league contests for the high flyers.
As a result, new Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho is understood to be keen to bring the defensive midfield player to Stamford Bridge when the summer transfer window reopens for business on July 1 as a replacement for John Obi Mikel, who is expected to depart the club.
