The Netherlands international midfielder moved from Vitesse Arnhem last summer, but sustained a rupture of his anterior cruciate ligament in September, and saw his progress halted somewhat – though was unsurprisingly appreciative of the Blues’ state of the art rehab facilities.
Van Ginkel, 21, played 70 minutes as Chelsea under-21s beat Stoke 3-0 last night (the same scoreline as the senior team’s win over the Potters today) and his hopes of making Louis van Gaal’s World Cup squad seem genuinely back on the table.
Jose Mourinho will now be hopeful of being able to call upon Van Ginkel before the end of the season – with big games to come in both Barclays Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
