Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes his team will be stronger next season for not having David Luiz in it, according to the Daily Mail.
The Blues boss has aimed a subtle dig at the eccentric Brazilian centre-back, who became the most expensive defender of all time with a £50m transfer to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Mourinho admits Luiz was an important character in the Stamford Bridge dressing room, but feels the side looks stronger this season with John Terry and Gary Cahill as the first choice central defensive partnership, as well as with new signings in midfield.
Asked if Chelsea would miss Luiz, Mourinho’s response was frank and brutal, saying: “As a central defender not at all, it was John Terry and Gary Cahill the whole season.
“David did important things here, was always good professional and we will miss him as a good guy. But from a football point of view we believe our squad is stronger this season than it was.”
