Mourinho thinks Ozil will turn Arsenal into Premier League contenders…
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has given a glowing report of Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil, and reckons that the 24-year-old German is the best no.10 in the world, reports the Daily Mail.
Arsenal tied up a £42m deal for the Real Madrid playmaker with only hours to go of deadline day, making him the most expensive ever import into the Premier League.
Mourinho managed the German at Real Madrid for three seasons, after bringing him to La Liga from Werder Bremen, so is in as good a position as any to analyse his ability.
“Ozil is unique. There is no copy of him – not even a bad one. He is the best number 10 in the world. He makes things very easy for me and for his team-mates with his football vision and the decisions he makes,” Mourinho said, which is sure to get Arsenal fans drooling over the prospect of seeing him in action.
The Portuguese even compared Ozil to some of the greatest players who have graced world football over the past 20 years.
“Everyone loves him and sees a bit of Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane in him,” he said.
Interestingly, Mourinho has also confirmed that Arsenal’s Ozil deal meant he refused to loan them Demba Ba, worried that the combination of the two would help the Gunners challenge for the Premier League.
“We didn’t accept Arsenal’s offer for Demba Ba because the signing of Ozil makes them title contenders.”
