Injuries to strikers Diego Costa, Didier Drogba and Loic Remy will see Blues manager Jose Mourinho dip into the transfer market, with ESPNFC reporting Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi is the club’s number one target.
The 22-year-old Argentine is believed to be the subject of interest from a number of top European clubs, but Chelsea looms as the likely destination for the star attacker.
According to the report, the London club have made contact with the Serie A giants over the possible transfer of Icardi, but it is believed Mourinho is looking at a number of options.
Icardi has scored 16 goals in 29 league appearances for the Nerazzurri, and is considered to be one of the brightest talents in the Serie A.
He isn’t the only player Mourinho will be chasing in the off-season, with ESPNFC reporting that the Portuguese manager will attempt to sign a full-back to replace the out-of-favour Filipe Luis.
Mourinho is also reportedly looking at two back-up goalkeepers in the event that veteran gloveman Petr Cech leaves the club in search of first-team football.
