Mourinho also thinks Manchester City’s squad is incredible, and Liverpool lack the resources to challenge…Chelsea’s maverick manager Jose Mourinho thinks that Mesut Ozil’s summer arrival at Arsenal has transformed the Gunners into genuine Premier League title challengers.
Mourinho of course managed the brilliant German during his time at Real Madrid, and actually brought the player to Spain from German side Werder Bremen.
“At Arsenal, the manager is building a team step by step – the club is stable and buying a player like Mesut Ozil makes a difference,” he said in an interview with Chelsea magazine.
As well as Arsenal though, Mourinho has praised City, United and Spurs, all of whom could compete for the title he reckons.
“I think City has the most incredible squad. I think United is United, and history makes them contenders, too. Tottenham is the big spender of the summer and, because of that, they have a fantastic squad with two teams of equal players,” he said.
Chelsea lost to Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime, and are still level on points with Liverpool, who lost to Arsenal in the weekend kick off.
Mourinho doesn’t think the Reds have the strength in depth to mount a serious challenge though, and is expecting them to fall off the pace following their impressive start to the season.
“Liverpool are probably the club with least resources because, while their team looks as strong as the others, their squad doesn’t look quite so strong,” the outspoken 50-year-old said.
“At the same time, they don’t play in European competition, so they only play one match a week, so they are training, preparing and resting for the weekend match while the rest of us are playing in Europe.”
