Mourinho punishes BVB for not selling him Robert Lewandowski…
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho blocked a potential transfer of Kevin De Bruyne to Borussia Dortmund during the January transfer window, according to German publication Bild.
The Belgian attacking midfielder eventually moved back to Wolfsburg, where he spent last season on loan, for around €20m.
But this wasn’t before Chelsea’s Portuguese maverick manager had refused a similar offer from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
“Mourinho said no,” De Bruyne said, when asked about Dortmund’s interest.
“This is professional football, where there is a lot of money involved. So sometimes strange decisions are made.”
The newspaper suggested that Mourinho’s refusal to sell De Bruyne to BVB was in retaliation for the German club refusing to sell Chelsea Polish hitman Robert Lewandowski.
Jurgen Klopp’s side decided to keep the striker this season regardless of the fact his contract expires in the summer. The stubborn decision may have cost them De Bruyne’s transfer, although Chelsea’s Premier League rivals will be very pleased Lewandowski isn’t spearheading Mourinho’s side.
