Chelsea’s woeful start to its title defence has resulted in boss Jose Mourinho wielding the axe ahead of the side’s Champions League clash with Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday.
According to the Daily Express, Mourinho showed a sense of urgency by cutting four key players from the Blues squad for the match at Stamford Bridge.
These players include striker Diego Costa, midfielder Nemanja Matic and defenders John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic.
Terry being axed from the side has come as a surprise despite the fact the 34-year-old captain has struggled to maintain his form after an impressive 2014-15 season.
Costa has been surprisingly abysmal throughout the 2015-16 season, and Ivanovic has contributed greatly to the Blues’ defensive woes.
Defender Baba Rahman is on track to make his Chelsea debut after being signed for £8m from Augsburg.
Although the Blues are heavy favourites for the match, nothing is guaranteed in the Champions League as Manchester United proved in their loss to PSV Eindhoven.
