Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has given another hint that veteran left-back Ashley Cole will leave the club in the summer, BBC Sport reports.
On asked whether the 106-cap Englishman would get betting any game time soon, the Portuguese boss dismissed the claims, instead declaring that he’s more than happy with his starting left back Cesar Azpiliceuta.
“I don’t know. I’m happy with the way Azpilicueta is performing,” said Mourinho.
Cole’s contract expires at the end of the season, and has only made three appearances in 2014.
As a result, many believe his starting spot for England is also under threat, with Everton fullback Leighton Baines knocking on Roy Hodgson’s door.
Mourinho though, doesn’t think the fact the fact Cole isn’t getting club matches will effect his place in the England side.
“There are national team managers that are very clear: they go with their players,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter if their players are playing in the club, if they are not playing, they go with their players.
“All these years as a club manager, I found lots of them like this.”
Whether he’ll start for England or not, it looks as though his Chelsea career is drawing to its close.
