Chelsea ready to tempt highest paid player in the world with huge deal.
Chelsea are hopeful of signing veteran Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o, according to the Daily Mirror, and it appears to be a move that would suit all parties.
Anzhi are prepared to sell their best players due to a poor start to the season and financial difficulties, and Eto’o – the highest paid footballer in the world with colossal wages believed to be £350,000 per week – is the top priority to get off the wage bill.
Cameroon international legend Eto’o too seems far from averse to the prospective transfer, citing his previous successful relationship with Chelsea’s manager Jose Mourinho as a key factor in his interest.
Eto’o played under the Portuguese coach at Inter Milan, and helped the Serie A side win a famous treble of Serie A title, Coppa Italia, and UEFA Champions League – the third of his career after two with FC Barcelona.
“There is only one Jose Mourinho,” extolled Eto’o of his former boss.
“I have played under a lot of great coaches – but there is no other character in the game like Jose.
“He is one of the best coaches in the world – and we had a lot of success together at Inter Milan. I would like to have the chance to play under him again – because it is never boring when Jose is around.”
“Chelsea are a great team. When we have all the offers on the table then I will discuss with my agent and see what my next step is.”
