Reports suggest that with Pepe set to sign a new contract with the Spanish giants, that the centre-back sees his future lying away from the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to secure more first-team football.
Jose Mourinho signed Varane during his tenure with Real, and as such the Frenchman is welcome to working with the Portuguese again at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League title-leaders in January, but a move never transpired.
Nonetheless, the Blues boss’ interest in the young centre-back hasn’t dwindled, and he remains a top summer target for the club, with Mourinho keen to bolster his defensive options.
