The 22-year-old has been on the Stamford Bridge radar all season having impressed with a string of fine performances in an ever present season on the French riviera.
Having initially been priced at £20million, Blues scouts have been urging Jose Mourinho to make a move to bring him to west London during the summer transfer window.
However, Chelsea’s interest may have just been given a huge boost as reports in the French media this week are claiming that Marseille are set to hold a fire sale for their stars as they drastically need to reduce their wage bill, meaning that the midfielder could be available for as little as £8.6million.
Marseille are currently embroiled in a battle to secure Champions League football for themselves next term, and should they miss out Imbula will almost certainly move on.
